On March 27, a charity Easter egg weighing 7kg was stolen from the United Reform Church in Heaton Moor, Stockport, while the local PopVox choir was rehearsing. The theft occurred during what choir members called a "bonkers" incident.

Since the theft, the church has received overwhelming support from the community, with many donations pouring in to replace the stolen egg, which was intended for a charity raffle.

Krista Procter, a choir member, expressed her disbelief, stating: "It's like a bit bonkers that it's been taken, really, but just such a shame for the church." She emphasized the need for funds to support those in need and noted the unfortunate timing of the theft during a joyful choir practice.

The thief took advantage of a "window of opportunity" during the choir's rehearsal while the church door was left unlatched. Krista remarked on the easy access the thief had, saying, "Somebody, while the choir were rehearsing, went in and took the egg."

Despite the unfortunate incident, local businesses and community members responded generously. One business donated £100 worth of Easter eggs, prompting Krista to suggest that residents could help the church by bringing in eggs.

Funds for Dementia Friendly Heatons

The community effort has resulted in over 60 Easter eggs being gathered for the raffle, which aims to support Dementia Friendly Heatons. The raised funds will help cover costs for a "Spring Fling afternoon tea and dance event" planned for dementia patients and their carers at The Village Hotel in Cheadle.

The church is actively seeking additional donations on their JustGiving page, with a goal to raise £1,000 for the charity. Despite the initial distress caused by the theft, the church members have been heartened by the community's support.
