On April 10, armed police responded to urgent reports regarding two women being held against their will in Atherton. Two wanted men were subsequently arrested.

Specialist officers were deployed as attempts to engage the suspects through negotiation proved unfruitful. Authorities were informed of threats being made, indicating a potential risk of serious physical harm to the women.

Upon arriving, officers found the entrance to the property barricaded with sofas and other furniture, complicating their efforts to gain access.

Eventually, firearms officers successfully entered the building, where the two suspects, aged 31 and 21, were located hiding in a concealed cupboard.

The men have been arrested on multiple charges, including kidnap, possession of a bladed article, and recall to prison. Additionally, a knife and a sword were recovered from the scene. Fortunately, both women are now safe and being supported by police officers.
