A dramatic police chase unfolded on the streets of Swinton as Stefan Boeru Sorin led officers on a high-speed pursuit in an Audi A6. The incident began on Station Road where Sorin was spotted speeding by an unmarked police car.
Despite officers activating their emergency signals, Sorin continued to evade capture, leading the chase onto Manchester Road. The pursuit concluded when the police firearms unit intercepted the vehicle, revealing weapons inside.
The chase, which occurred in the early hours around 3 AM on June 29, 2022, was sparked when Sorin overtook the unmarked police vehicle at high speed. Prosecutor Clare Thomas detailed the route of the chase, highlighting Sorin's failure to stop for police signals.
Sorin later claimed that his flight was due to fear and lack of insurance, and that his eventual stop was because the car ran out of fuel. However, Judge John Potter handed Sorin a two-year conditional discharge and a driving ban, pointing to the presence of weapons in the vehicle as a significant concern.
In court, Sorin’s lawyer Megan Edwards explained his absence at previous court appearances, attributing it to his detainment pending deportation consideration. With the case closed, Sorin faces deportation proceedings.
