A 27-year-old man, Tarik Hussein, from Plymouth Grove in Longsight, has been charged with the murder of 56-year-old Esmaeil Tofigh. The case has been scheduled for trial in the summer.
The case was heard at Manchester Crown Court, although Mr. Hussein was represented by his barrister, Andrew Scott, and did not attend the brief hearing. The judge, His Honour Judge Field KC, presided over the session, hearing representations from both the defense and prosecution, led by Charlotte Crangle.
A pre-trial hearing is set for April 28, with the trial expected to begin on July 31. Emergency services responded to an incident at Mr. Hussein's residence on Plymouth Grove around 5:20 a.m. on Sunday, February 5, where Mr. Tofigh was found dead.
The police have maintained a presence at the scene for days, taping off nearby houses and appealing for public information regarding the incident. Inspector Louise Edwards from Greater Manchester Police’s Major Incident Team emphasized ongoing support for the victim's family and the community’s cooperation in the investigation.
Inspector Edwards stated: "We are actively seeking any information, including dashcam or CCTV footage, that could assist our investigation. Increased police presence will be noted in the area, and we encourage residents to contact our officers with concerns."
