Revenge Shooting Incident in Oldham

In a dramatic court case, jurors were shown footage of a revenge shooting that took place in Oldham. Daniel Whelan, 31, and his brother Alex Whelan, 26, were both present in a BMW during the incident.

Daniel was identified as the shooter, jumping out of the BMW to fire at a Ford Focus, but missing and hitting another vehicle. Fortunately, the occupants were unharmed.

Events unfolded on July 5, 2023, when the brothers, shortly after being robbed, sought retaliation. CCTV footage captured the build-up to the shooting.

Before the incident, there was an altercation on Great Gable Close, where Daniel was punched and robbed of a plastic bag containing unknown items.

The shooting itself occurred on Horsedge Street, with the Whelans seeking those they believed responsible for their earlier attack. A voice was heard urging the BMW to flee the scene immediately after the shot was fired.

Debris and damage from the incident were shown to the jurors, including traces of bullet residue left on the street.

Alex Whelan had borrowed the BMW X3 involved, and later switched vehicles following the shooting. He is charged with additional firearm offenses. Both brothers deny attempted murder and related charges.

The trial continues as evidence mounts against the defendants.
