A violent feud between rival drug gangs in Rochdale reached a horrifying climax when gang members attacked a rival dealer. Mohammed Hasan Alam was severely injured in a planned ambush on October 5, 2021, the Manchester Crown Court was told during the trial.
Six men are on trial for conspiracy to commit murder. The prosecution explained the attack was part of an ongoing struggle for territory between gangs, involving attacks dating back to September 2020.
On the day of the attack, Mr. Alam was driving in Rochdale when his car was rammed by two stolen vehicles. The attackers, armed with axes and a machete, severely beat him and poured ammonia over his body, potentially affecting his vision.
According to the prosecution, the intent was either to kill Mr. Alam or cause serious harm. Despite the brutality, the attackers were deterred by the public nature of their actions. Mr. Alam was aided by the public and an off-duty officer.
The court heard detailed accounts of past incidents leading to the attack, including a previous car ramming in September 2020. All defendants have pleaded not guilty, and the trial is expected to last six weeks.
